Switchboard Upgrades in Buderim

Plenty of Buderim homes are still running the board they were built with — and on a house that's been extended two or three times, that board is usually full.

When the board runs out of room

The classic Buderim switchboard problem isn't only age, it's space. Every addition — the second bathroom, the studio, the pool pump, the air conditioning — needed a circuit, and they've all been squeezed onto a board that was sized for a much smaller house.

A new board sorts both at once: modern circuit breakers and safety switches on every circuit, in an enclosure with room left over. Older homes here also tend to have the board sitting in an original meter box, which is worth replacing at the same time.

Full boards

Extensions add circuits. If yours has no spare ways left, that's the sign.

Original meter boxes

Older timber and metal meter boxes weather badly under tree cover. We check the enclosure, not just the board.

Ceramic fuses

Still have them? Then there are no safety switches protecting those circuits.

FAQ

Switchboard Upgrades in Buderim: common questions

How do I know if my Buderim switchboard is full?

Look at the board itself — if every position has a breaker or fuse in it, there's nowhere for a new circuit to go. Tandem breakers doubled up in a single slot are another sign it's already been stretched.

Should the meter box be replaced as well?

Often, yes. Under Buderim's tree cover, older timber and metal meter boxes take a beating from damp and leaf litter, and a corroded enclosure undoes much of the benefit of a new board inside it.
