Smoke Alarms in Buderim

Two-storey and split-level homes are everywhere in Buderim, and Queensland's alarm rules are specific about what that means — every storey, every bedroom, and all of them talking to each other.

Local work

Multi-storey homes and the interconnection rule

Queensland requires photoelectric alarms in every bedroom, in the hallways connecting them to the rest of the home, and on every storey — interconnected, so one alarm sounding sets off the lot. On Buderim's split-level and two-storey homes that usually means more alarms than owners expect, and the interconnection is the part people miss.

The rules already apply when a home is sold or leased, and they apply to every Queensland home from 1 January 2027. If your alarms are more than ten years old they're due regardless of what the calendar says.

Local know-how

Worth knowing in Buderim

Every storey counts

Split-level and two-storey homes need alarms on each level, not just upstairs.

Interconnection is the catch

Alarms fitted one at a time over the years usually aren't interconnected. They have to be.

Selling or leasing

The rules already bite at sale or lease, so it's worth sorting before the sign goes up.

FAQ

Smoke Alarms in Buderim: common questions

How many smoke alarms does a two-storey Buderim home need?

One in every bedroom, one in each hallway connecting bedrooms to the rest of the home, and at least one on every storey — including levels with no bedrooms on them. On a split-level home, each level counts separately.

Do my existing alarms need to be interconnected?

Yes. Queensland requires interconnected photoelectric alarms, so when one sounds they all do. Alarms added individually over the years usually aren't connected to each other and won't comply.

When do the rules apply to my home?

Already, when a home is sold or leased — and to every Queensland home from 1 January 2027.
